Guwahati: Dhubri police intercepted six cows Sunday night. They caught a smuggler after a wild foot chase in the Jhagrapar area. The operation kicked off at 8:42 pm when a team led by SI(P) Sagar Das spotted a suspicious truck, registration AS-01EX-7668, moving through the district. Officers signaled the driver to stop, but the move triggered a chaotic scene.

A male passenger jumped from the moving vehicle and bolted on foot. Local residents spotted the man and intervened before police could close the gap. "Police personnel chased the suspect, but before they could secure him, a group of local residents allegedly caught hold of and assaulted him," officials reported. Officers quickly stepped in to pull the man from the crowd and take him into custody.

The arrested man is 22-year-old Mohibul Mondal from Joldoba Part-II in Kokrajhar. He is the son of Abu Siddique Mondal. Police found the six cattle crammed inside the vehicle in inhumane conditions. Officials seized the truck and the animals in front of local witnesses. The cattle now reside in a government pound. Mondal remains in police custody while investigators prepare further legal action against him.
