Guwahati: An unidentified driver saved a pregnant woman and two others after an ambulance crashed near Gurubari, 25 kilometers from Haflong. The accident occurred at 3:30 pm when the ambulance, registration AS 01 EC 5646, veered off the road. The driver lost control of the vehicle.
Dorching Pangchu of Bar Langfang village was taking his pregnant wife to Haflong Civil Hospital for an ultrasound. All passengers sustained injuries. A passing Bolero driver spotted the wreck and stopped. He moved the victims into his own vehicle and drove them to the hospital.
The pregnant woman remains under observation with her unborn child confirmed safe. Pangchu is recovering from a left arm fracture. Local residents lauded the stranger for his quick response. One observer noted that the driver's "timely rescue has been described as a remarkable act of humanity and compassion." Officials have yet to identify the Good Samaritan who acted without hesitation to prevent a worse outcome.
