Guwahati: The All Tai Ahom Students Union (ATASU) kept the pressure on Sivasagar officials today. They spent the second straight day pushing to clear illegal buildings from the historic Jamuna site. Dozens of members swarmed the area on October 30. Their goal remains simple: tear down the encroachments and restore the site to its former state.
The group claims these squatters are erasing local history. ATASU leadership says the occupation threatens the very existence of this landmark. They want the entire area cleared to save a vital piece of the cultural legacy of Sivasagar. The organization argued that "protecting Jamuna is not merely about removing illegal structures but also about safeguarding an important part of Sivasagar's historical and cultural legacy."
Public anger is growing. Residents are now debating how to best preserve the town's heritage. ATASU is calling on the authorities to step in now. They want concrete action to stop any further damage to the historic ground.
