Guwahati: Sivasagar MLA Akhil Gogoi will end his 14-day satyagraha at the Assam Legislative Assembly complex on October 15. The Raijor Dal president began his indefinite strike at 10:30 am on October 2. He acted after a government deadline for flood relief expired. His demands included immediate cash aid, infrastructure repairs, and a probe into flood causes.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma intervened. He promised to address compensation for families across Upper Assam. Gogoi accepted the assurances to help struggling residents. He remains skeptical of the long-term results. "The Chief Minister has given assurances, but I am not completely satisfied. I do not believe that all the problems will be resolved," Gogoi said.

The government recently sanctioned funds for 3,064 additional families in the Sivasagar constituency. This adds to the 4,000 families who already received Rs 15,000 each during the protest. Total aid for the new group hits Rs 4.60 crore. Sarma promised to send the beneficiary list via WhatsApp.

Gogoi pushed for Rs 15,000 per family. He expects little movement on his request for an extra Rs 10,000 for now. Instead of a CBI inquiry into flood mismanagement, the state will form an expert committee. The government claimed the protest delayed a compensation request to the Centre. Sarma agreed to send a proposal for 57,000 families first. A second proposal will follow for remaining victims. Payouts for damaged homes range from Rs 1.70 lakh to Rs 5.60 lakh. The protest officially concludes Thursday.
