Sivasagar residents blast poor quality of government flood relief mattresses

Guwahati: Sivasagar residents are firing back at the district administration over the abysmal quality of flood relief mattresses delivered to Hatikhuli. Locals claim the materials are unfit for humans and have demanded an immediate probe into the distribution process.

One resident confronted officials directly about the state of these supplies. The local asked, "Do you know what is the condition of the mattresses that your office is distributing to the people of Hatikhuli?" The same source told authorities to stop ignoring the issue and inspect the stock.

Supply shortages are fueling further anger. Each ward in Hatikhuli holds roughly 150 families, but the current relief efforts provided mattresses to only 50 households. This leaves two-thirds of the flood-affected population without promised support.

Sivasagar MLA Akhil Gogoi is now demanding answers regarding the procurement and distribution of these items. He wants full accountability for the materials. These mattresses are part of a larger shipment of one lakh units sent to four districts by the Flood and River Erosion Management Agency of Assam, which operates under the Water Resources Department.
