Guwahati: Sivasagar police swarmed the local Transport Corporation bus station last night. They blocked Raijor Dal workers from boarding buses headed for Guwahati to join a protest led by MLA and party chief Akhil Gogoi. Cops turned the station into a fortress. They inspected every night bus leaving for the capital.
Tensions flared when officers detained Raijor Dal leader Chandandeep Gogoi. He had just finished a nine-day protest at Dalmukh Chariali and stopped at the station for a meal. Witnesses claim police forced him into a vehicle. Officers also seized a bus from the station lot. No official reason for the detention or the bus seizure has been provided by authorities.
Police remain on high alert as they work to prevent party members from reaching the demonstration in Guwahati. The scene remains volatile. "The situation escalated after Raijor Dal leader Chandandeep Gogoi was detained by police," according to reports from the site. Additional details on the police operation are still pending.
