Guwahati: Sivasagar police booked Raijor Dal president Akhil Gogoi on Monday. The MLA faces eight separate FIRs. BJP frontal groups including the Yuva Morcha, Chah Morcha, and Mahila Morcha filed the complaints. The Minority Cell, SC Morcha, ST Morcha, and OBC Morcha also joined the legal assault. Tension stems from a heated dispute over flood relief distribution in the Sivasagar constituency.
BJP workers claim Gogoi threatened them with physical violence if they interfered with aid. They demanded an apology for his remarks. The situation spiraled after Gogoi attacked the reputation of party leaders. BJP state secretary Lakhya Konwar accused the MLA of spreading baseless lies. Konwar stated, "Gogoi had raised issues related to alleged illegal coal and stone quarrying in the Bihubor-Nagonimara area, besides questioning the distribution of flood relief, with the aim of damaging the public image of the BJP leaders."
The criticism targets several figures. These include Nazira MLA Mayur Borgohain, Demow MLA and Cabinet Minister Sushanta Borgohain, Sonari MLA Dharmeswar Konwar, and Guardian Minister Bimal Borah. Sivasagar district BJP president Bitupon Raidangia recently led a protest against the legislator. Party officials also slammed Gogoi for his public confrontation with the Sivasagar district commissioner. The MLA allegedly berated the officer while cameras rolled. The fallout continues to boil over in Sivasagar.
