Guwahati: Assam MLA Akhil Gogoi plans to head to Delhi. He wants to join the Cockroach Janta Party protest after he finishes his current fight in Assam. On Sunday, October 11, the Raijor Dal president praised CJP leaders Abhijeet Dipke, Ashutosh Ranka, and Saurav Das. They were freed following orders from an executive magistrate.
Gogoi spoke at a press interaction. He lauded the party for hitting the BJP and RSS “at the heart.” The three men were released under the condition that they keep the peace for one year. Delhi Police initially took them into custody at the airport. They were stopped before the group could stage their demonstration at Jantar Mantar.
Legal affairs head Ratna Singh confirmed the release. Authorities invoked Sections 126 and 170 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita to hold the trio. These statutes cover preventive arrest and security for keeping the peace. Saturday saw a massive security clampdown across the capital. Police detained over 7,000 people to block access to Jantar Mantar, including several opposition politicians.
Gogoi has his own battle. He is currently leading an agitation in Assam. He demands compensation for families hit by flooding. On Wednesday, October 7, the Sivasagar MLA threatened a statewide democratic protest if the government ignores his demands.
