Road Closure Leaves Travelers Stranded on Assam's NH-27

Guwahati: Commuters sit trapped on National Highway-27 in Assam's Dima Hasao district. The trouble started on October 10 when workers closed the approach road near Gerhem. This stretch between Maibang and Mahur is currently a bottleneck. A long line of vehicles now sits stalled near an under-construction bridge.

Passing the site is dangerous. A high road breaker built into the structure forces drivers to crawl or turn back. It is a mess. Motorists report that no one from the National Highways Authority of India or the construction firm is on-site to direct traffic. No help arrived.

Public anger is mounting. Travelers claim the lack of planning exposes travelers to unnecessary risk. One concerned citizen captured the chaos on video, which reached India Today NE. Drivers are now demanding urgent help to clear the jams. They want the authorities to step in and fix the movement along this main road. As one local stated, the situation is a sign of "alleged lack of adequate traffic management and coordination" during the construction work.
