NHAI Promises One Month Deadline for Damaged Assam Highway Repairs

Guwahati: The National Highways Authority of India issued a hard deadline. They will fix the battered NH-27 stretches in Dima Hasao inside thirty days. North Cachar Autonomous Council Chief Executive Member Debolal Garlosa demanded action during a tense review meeting at the CEM Conference Hall in Haflong.

Residents flooded the council with complaints about the road. They cited deep potholes inside the Maibang tunnel and stalled construction at Harangajao. The group also brought up unpaid land acquisition compensation. NHAI Project Director-in-charge Tushar Biswas promised to address the failures.

"The immediate repair work would be completed within one month," Biswas said. He added that the rest of the highway work should wrap up in five months. The NH-27 is a vital piece of the East-West Corridor. Former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee announced this massive project back on October 10, 1998.

Construction teams laid the foundation stone in 2004. The plan linked Silchar in southern Assam to Saurashtra in Gujarat over 3,300 kilometres. It missed the original 2007 completion target by years.
