Guwahati: Assam officials handed out nearly 150 crore in interim relief to flood victims this week. They expect to clear the remaining eligible claims by Monday, August 17. The pressure is on. Surveyors have finished 75 per cent of damage assessments across the state.
More than 1,000 surveyors are now scouring the ground to finish the job. State leaders warned that delays or negligence in the relief effort will not be tolerated. They have ordered staff to maintain speed in all operations.
Crews are scrambling to fix public infrastructure and 793 schools are undergoing repairs to get students back to class. In Sivasagar, high-capacity pumps run 24 hours a day to drain stagnant water from low-lying neighborhoods. The government is also scaling up local health camps to stop water-borne diseases from spreading through the population.
State authorities stated, "Compensation and other benefits are being mapped to ensure that assistance reaches every affected household."
Officials also reviewed loan relief and insurance processing during the recent meeting. They urged all eligible residents to submit their paperwork by August 30 to guarantee timely payment.
