Shillong: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma promised flood-ravaged families full government support on Tuesday. Officials will begin a door-to-door damage assessment across the state on August 9. This survey aims to verify individual losses and speed up relief payments.
Sarma visited a relief camp in Sivasagar district to meet displaced residents. This region currently reports the highest death toll from this year's flooding. The Chief Minister inspected the supply of food, drinking water, and medicine at the site. He spoke directly to the victims about their recovery. "We are taking feedback from every affected family to see if they have received relief and help. Starting from August 9, our teams will reach every home of the affected families to conduct a ground assessment of the damage," Sarma said.
The government intends to build a precise database to manage rehabilitation efforts. Teams are already working to fix broken infrastructure and hand out supplies in multiple districts. The state pledged to assist families until they return to normal life. Officials hope the upcoming field assessments will remove red tape and ensure aid hits the right hands.
