Assam Sets October 10 Deadline for Flood Damage Survey

Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma pushed for speed on September 15. He ordered officials to wrap up the second phase of flood damage surveys by October 10. The directive targets four hard-hit districts: Sivasagar, Charaideo, Jorhat, and Golaghat. These areas already finished the first phase of damage mapping and rehab planning.

Sarma wants accuracy. He told district commissioners, co-district commissioners, and revenue circle officers to rely on hard evidence instead of guesses. He wants fresh surveys or re-checks anywhere the data looks shaky. No family gets left out. He also warned staff to keep ineligible names off the beneficiary rolls. The goal is a clean, honest list.

Cash needs to move faster. Sarma demanded departments fix bank glitches and speed up direct benefit transfers for flood victims. The state wants to bypass technical delays that stall aid delivery. "All departments concerned and district administrations must work in close coordination to expedite the distribution of assistance and ensure every eligible flood-affected person receives government support," the chief minister said.
