Guwahati: Assam Chief Secretary Ravi Kota has ordered district officials to finish flood damage assessments by August 14. This push follows a video conference with administrations in Jorhat, Sivasagar, Charaideo, and Golaghat. Officials must report sector-specific findings by August 18.
The state is launching a digital overhaul for relief. Starting August 9, teams will conduct door-to-door surveys using a new mobile app to upload damage photos of houses and property. This survey runs through August 30. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma says, "The government's guiding principle is to assess every genuine loss and provide the maximum relief permissible under the existing norms."
District commissioners, banks, and insurers are now working under a unified directive. Because many residents lost records in the rising water, Kota ordered officials to simplify paperwork. Authorities will accept alternative verification methods when original documents are gone. Dedicated insurance nodal officers are assigned to each district to oversee claims.
Banks must now step up. Over the next two weeks, lenders will offer loan moratoriums, restructuring, fresh credit, and consumption loans to affected families. Insurers must open dedicated helplines and expedite settlements. Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Keshab Mahanta and other senior officials are coordinating the rollout to ensure no household gets left behind.
