Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced a door-to-door flood damage assessment starting August 9. Teams will use a new digital tool called the Rapid Assessment Survey of Flood Damage and Post Disaster Needs Assessment to log destruction. The process wraps up August 30. Surveyors will upload photos of damaged property to a dedicated app. Authorities will then verify the data with families. The goal is to speed up financial aid by replacing slow manual paperwork.

Sarma ordered district commissioners, co-district commissioners, and circle officers to prioritize sensitivity. He said, "Officers concerned will upload images of the damage on a dedicated app. Thereafter, an assessment will be made by August 30, followed by re-verification with affected families." He insists the government will pay the maximum relief allowed under existing norms.

Flood conditions remain deadly. The death toll hit 98 after a new fatality in the Charaideo district's Mahmora revenue circle. While the situation is easing, 1,55,849 people across 13 districts still suffer. This includes residents in Sivasagar, Golaghat, Nagaon, Hojai, Sonitpur, Dhemaji, Darrang, Biswanath, Kamrup (Metropolitan), Lakhimpur, Udalguri, Jorhat, and Charaideo. Thirty-three revenue circles and 464 villages are still under water.

Golaghat is the hardest hit with 58,750 people impacted. Sivasagar follows with 48,286 and Jorhat with 25,259. The administration maintains 55 relief camps for 10,000 people. Eighteen distribution centers are also active. The Dhansiri River remains above the danger mark at Golaghat town and Numaligarh. The Kushiyara River sits above the danger level in Sribhumi district.

Floodwaters have swallowed 10,748.64 hectares of cropland. Over 47,000 animals are impacted. Damage to homes, roads, and bridges is widespread.
