Guwahati: The Dibrugarh Irrigation Circle launched a major relief push Wednesday to aid families swamped by rising floodwaters in Sivasagar district. The convoy left the Dibrugarh-Chabua-Lahowal Division office at 7 am carrying food, drinking water, hygiene kits, and clothes for women and children.

Ramen Chetia and Rituporno Borgohain led the operation. They worked under the direction of Executive Engineers from the Dibrugarh-Chabua-Lahowal and Naharkatia-Duliajan divisions. The project drew support from the Assam Engineering Service Association and irrigation staff across the state.

The team hit Dilihi Gohain Gaon first, providing aid to 50 to 60 households. They moved on to Banmukh Gohain Gaon before finishing the day at Nimaijan. Officials report that Nimaijan remains heavily flooded. Many locals are currently living on rooftops or in schools. According to department officials, the initiative reflected the "collective efforts of officers and employees from different Irrigation divisions, who came together to assist flood-affected communities beyond their routine responsibilities."

A crew from the Sivasagar-Thowra Division provided extra help and logistical support to speed up the handoffs. This mission marks a push to supply isolated communities that remain cut off from basic goods.
