Guwahati: Villagers from Na-Bakharbori descended on the Morigaon electrical office on August 17. They traveled by e-rickshaw at their own cost to force a fix for their failing power supply. The group met with Sub-Divisional Engineer Dhaneshwar Barman to hand over a signed petition demanding a new transmission system and a higher-capacity transformer.
Residents claim they were promised improvements before the election. They honored their side of the bargain by voting for their Ward No. 8 representative in the Garmari Gaon Panchayat. The power grid never caught up. They allege the initial assurances vanished after the polls closed, leaving the village trapped in a cycle of dim lights and broken appliances.
Barman promised a swift response to the community. He said, "The matter would be taken up seriously." Officials pledged to start the work on a larger transformer as soon as possible. The villagers now wait for the department to act. They want a permanent fix, not another round of empty promises.
