Guwahati: National Highway 27 in Assam is crumbling. Potholes, thick mud, and standing water now plague the road, turning a key artery into a death trap for local commuters. The situation is dire.
Water seeps directly from inside the Nririmbanglo tunnel, pooling on the road surface and risking accidents. The Dimasa Students' Union hit the district administration with a formal demand for action on September 8. General secretary Pramit Sengyong led the delegation to deliver the memorandum to Deputy Commissioner Gayatri Devidas Hilyanger.
The group demands repairs for the stretch running from Ardawpur-Hatikhali through Nririmbanglo to Mahur. Students, patients, farmers, and traders use this route daily. "Temporary pothole repairs alone would not address the problem," the union stated while calling for a full investigation into the tunnel drainage and structural integrity.
The union wants the administration to resurface the road, improve drainage systems, and install proper lighting, warning signs, and reflectors. They gave officials a 10-day deadline to start the work and provide a written progress report. If the state ignores this window, the group warns it will launch a public agitation to force a fix.
