Guwahati: Guwahati hosts Gaj Utsav 2026 this November. The two-day summit starts November 12 at the Faculty Complex in North Guwahati at 9.30 am. It shifts to the Hati Bondhu Activity Area in Nagaon at 8 am on November 13. Wildlife Trust of India’s Hati Bondhu Assam and the Assam Chapter of the Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage (INTACH) are running the show.
Organizers have planned panel discussions, school events, and meetings with conservationists. Padma Shri winner Parbati Barua will feature in a podcast session on the opening day. Dr. Shiela Bora gives the welcome address, followed by an introduction from INTACH director Nerupama Modwell and Wildlife Trust of India chief Sandeep Tiwari. Authors and officials fill out the lineup. The Assam Forest Minister will deliver the chief guest address, and locomotive pilots will receive recognition for their safety efforts.
Four distinct panels will break down the elephant-human relationship. Experts will look at culture, tradition, and identity while debating legal protections and safe passage requirements. The event concludes with a closing speech from Rathin Barman, the Northeast head for the Wildlife Trust of India. The organizers stated, "Gaj Utsav 2026 aims to bring conservation concerns, cultural perspectives and community experiences into discussions on protecting elephants and promoting coexistence between humans and wildlife."
