Guwahati: The All Assam Matak Students Union delivered a seven-point memorandum to the Tinsukia district administration on Thursday. Union members met the Deputy Commissioner to demand immediate fixes for failing infrastructure and illegal trade. They want change now.
The list targets rising costs for basic goods and persistent black market activity. Union leaders also demand urgent repairs for roads they describe as dangerous. Neglect has left the district struggling. The group insists on a total shutdown of illegal coal mining operations in the area.
Tobacco sales near schools remain a major friction point. The union is pushing for a strict ban on selling these products within a 100-metre radius of all colleges and schools. They want authorities to punish any shop breaking these rules. The union issued a warning if the administration drags its feet. They stated, "failure to take effective measures on its demands within a reasonable period would leave it with no option but to launch democratic and peaceful agitation programmes in the public interest."
