Assam Youth Group Demands Coal Mine Reopening in Tinsukia

Guwahati: Protesters shut down the NH-315 Ledo highway in Assam on August 11. The Asom Jatiyotabadi Yuba Chatra Parishad (AJYCP) organized the rally in Tinsukia district to demand immediate action at North Eastern Coalfields. Coal India Limited operates the site in Margherita. Students and residents flooded the road to protest low output and job shortages.

AJYCP leaders Kanchan Bora, Bimal Singh, and the group's general secretary spearheaded the demonstration. They want the government to restart shuttered mines and boost overall production to help the local economy. The group claims these measures will stabilize the area.

Bora addressed the restless crowd during the event. He stated, "I call for the reopening and resumption of operations at closed coal mines in Margherita."

The organization insists on more than just restarted pits. They want local unemployed youth to receive priority for all permanent openings. Additionally, the committee demands that authorities build a mining school in Margherita to train the next generation of workers.
