Guwahati: Members of the Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuva-Chatra Parishad gathered on the national highway at Lidu in Tinsukia this week. The protesters demanded the revival of closed North Eastern Coalfields operations. They also want jobs for local youth and urgent repairs for the road in Bengali Gaon.
Protesters argue the prolonged closure of these Coal India sites blocks essential income for the community. The AJYCP stated, "The North Eastern Coalfields, Margherita, has kept many coalfields closed for a long time. As a result, many unemployed young men and women have been deprived of employment opportunities in the industry, while the local unemployment problem is steadily increasing."
The group wants the company to use scientific methods to restart production. They also highlighted the dangerous state of the road in the Lidu Shamukjan Gaon Panchayat. Villagers struggle to reach hospitals because of the mud and decay. The organization questioned government development claims, asking, "Is this the ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas’ of the Modi government? Villagers are unable to reach hospitals on time and are losing their lives. How long will the people of Lidu Bengali Gaon have to live like this?"
The activists filed a memorandum with district officials. They expect immediate action on the road and local industry jobs.
