Guwahati: The Margherita Co-District Administration is running 14 relief camps and distribution centres across the Tinsukia district to support families displaced by floodwaters. A total of 2,829 people, including 2,051 adults and 778 children from 1,133 families, are currently housed in these shelters. Camps include the Margherita Town LP School, Margherita Old Colony PWD Warehouse No. 1, Alubari LP School, No. 1 Fakiyal LP School, Khagoripather LP School, Likhajan LP School, and Sat Joymoti LP School. Additional sites operate at Maharam Boro LP School, Nabajyoti LP School, Mullang LP School, Bashbari LP School, Jagun LP School, the Namphai Tapu Relief Distribution Centre, and Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi ME School.
Crews are distributing rice, dal, edible oil, salt, drinking water, and tarpaulins. Every site offers sanitation and lighting. Medical teams from Ketetong Block Primary Health Centre are conducting health check-ups and providing essential medicine to inmates. Officials are prioritizing vulnerable groups: pregnant women, lactating mothers, infants, and young children receive extra nutritious meals. Workers have also begun distributing fodder to help livestock owners in flooded villages.
The administration has appointed a Town Committee official to manage the operations. A dedicated Flood Control Room at the office of the Circle Officer now coordinates all field activities. Residents needing help with evacuation, waterlogging, or infrastructure damage should contact the authorities. The administration issued a clear directive: "Residents have been urged to report flood-related emergencies, waterlogging, infrastructure damage or requests for rescue and relief assistance by contacting the Flood Control Room on 6001239068 or 9101098627." Officials advise the public to stay alert and follow all official safety updates.
