Guwahati: A female leopard is finally behind bars. Forest Department officials trapped the predator inside an abandoned plywood industrial unit owned by the A.R. & T. Company on Friday, October 2. The animal had terrorized the Margherita town area in the Tinsukia district of Assam for days. It snatched up domestic animals, leaving locals barricaded in their homes after dark.

The Margherita Forest Range Office set the trap two days before the capture. Word of the success spread quickly. A crowd gathered at the site on Saturday morning to get a look at the cat. Officials confirmed the leopard is female. They are now moving the animal to a safer location. The department remains on the scene as the operation wraps up, finally granting residents relief.
