Guwahati: The Bharatiya Janata Party kicked off its two-day Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya Mega Training Campaign on July 14 at Milan Mandir in Sivasagar. The event follows the party winning a third consecutive term in Assam. Water Resources Minister Susanta Borgohain opened the session by lighting a ceremonial lamp and touring an exhibition.
Borgohain told party workers the program aims to boost commitment to both the nation and the party. He stressed the importance of grassroots organizing. The party is already looking ahead to the 2029 Lok Sabha elections. Borgohain said the training will help members consolidate the structure of the party. He noted, "The training programme would inspire BJP cadres to serve both the nation and the party with greater commitment while equipping them to strengthen the organisation at the grassroots level."
The minister also took shots at the opposition. He claimed the Congress party blocked 33 percent women's reservation, which caused delays in constituency delimitation. On the ongoing flood crisis, he maintained that government action reduced downstream damage despite water releases from the National Hydroelectric Power Corporation.
Key figures joined the minister at the event. Attendees included former Sonowal Kachari Autonomous Council Chief Executive Member Dipuranjan Makar, BJP State Secretary Lakhya Konwar, and Assam Tea Corporation Chairman Shiv Prasad Bhadra. Multiple other party officials were also on site.
