BJSM Demands Eviction of 56 Families From Chirang Government Land

Guwahati: The Bodoland Janajati Suraksha Manch (BJSM) wants 56 families off government land in Choraikonsra. They submitted a memorandum to the Chirang District Commissioner this Friday. They want local officials to act on an eviction order signed back in August 2023.

The Circle Officer of Sidli Revenue Circle issued that notice on August 5, 2023, under memo number SLR.12/Encroachers/2012/1165. The order specifically directed the 56 families to leave the khas land. Nothing happened. The site remains occupied.

BJSM working president Daorao Dekhreb Narzary led the charge alongside a group of local youths. They are worried about the ongoing census process. They want officials to vet the residential status and land documents of these families before granting any benefits. The group claims their demand is about the law, not a specific group.

"The organisation also raised concerns over the ongoing Census/enumeration process," the memo stated. They want the District Commissioner to move fast. They fear that inaction will only encourage more illegal settlers to grab land in the area. The BJSM expects the administration to verify all documents and restore the land to the state immediately.
