Guwahati: Tension is boiling over in Barbhita Kachari Gaon Char. Farmer Julu Sheikh claims a group of land brokers hijacked his agricultural plot in South Kamrup. Sheikh had leased the land from Dipcharan, Sunil, Bhuben, and Rohit Kalita for over a decade. The peace ended Sunday.
Azahar Ali, Shahidul Haque, Hafizur Rahman, Siddique Ali, and Jamal Uddin arrived with 30 to 40 people. They used tractors to tear up the field. Sheikh says the rightful owners possess all legal documents and pay their taxes. He wants the authorities to step in now.
A farm shed went up in flames later that night. The structure housed cattle and goats, but nobody was around when the fire started. Sheikh says he is fighting for his livelihood. "I have been cultivating agricultural land belonging to the families of Dipcharan Kalita, Sunil Kalita, Bhuben Kalita and Rohit Kalita for nearly 10 to 12 years on a lease and contract basis," he stated.
Sheikh petitioned Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and the Goroimari Revenue Circle Officer for help. Police and revenue officials are reviewing the mess. The accused parties have not yet offered their side of the story.
