Guwahati: Veteran scholar Hiren Gohain has turned on Raijor Dal president Akhil Gogoi. He slammed the politician for his unpredictable conduct and unchecked personal drive. Gohain warned that Gogoi’s political choices pose a direct threat to Assam. He compared the Raijor Dal leader’s trajectory to the rise of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
Gohain pointed to failed pre-election talks between Raijor Dal and Congress. He claims Gogoi intentionally broke those negotiations. While Gogoi acted eager for an alliance, he demanded an unrealistic number of Assembly seats. When Congress refused, Gogoi launched a public smear campaign that crippled their election performance. He values seats over ideology. Gohain noted, "There is no limit to this ambition. For the sake of it, ideology, friendship, mutual understanding, agreements, and even his own opinions can be tossed out like waste paper."
The scholar also ripped into Gogoi’s shifting stance on Himanta Biswa Sarma. The Raijor Dal chief swings wildly between scorching personal attacks and extreme praise. He currently treats the Chief Minister with what Gohain calls pure adulation. Gogoi ignores the fallout of his flip-flopping. He chases personal whims with a smile. Accountability is foreign to him.
Gohain acknowledged the many honest workers stuck inside the Raijor Dal. However, he insisted it is time for a hard look at their leader. Gogoi leaves his allies frustrated before walking away. The scholar warned the public to brace for whatever strange move comes next. As Gohain put it, the game continues.
