Guwahati: Police detained five friends of Nilutpal Mili following his unexplained death at the Sesa River. The group visited the river, which sits near the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border, on Sunday. Mili, a first-semester BA student at Bihpuria College from Miri Gaon, traveled there on two-wheelers with Pranjal Debnath, Arian Debnath, Sumit Das, Dibyajyoti Bora, and Biswajit Bora. They arrived at the scene.

The companions brought Mili to the Bangalmora Police Outpost later that night. Medics declared him dead on arrival. Family members claimed that authorities sent the body to Lakhimpur Medical College and Hospital for a post-mortem exam without notifying them first. This lack of communication fueled local anger. A large crowd of villagers gathered at the police station on Monday to demand answers.

Protesters accused the police of failing to act fast enough. Officers took the five detainees back to the Sesa River site, located inside Arunachal Pradesh, to piece together the events. Investigators have not determined a cause of death. Officials stated, "the investigation is underway," while they wait for the medical results to clarify the situation. No formal arrests have been made in the case as the probe continues.
