Agartala: Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha ordered officials Saturday to finish all Smart City Mission projects in Agartala before Durga Puja. He walked the route from Bidurkarta Chowmuhani to Purbasha, checking progress on infrastructure aimed at modernizing the capital. Heavy rain stunts the work. The Chief Minister acknowledged that weather limits the construction window, but he still demanded that crews make all major roads motorable before the holidays start.
He told staff to prioritize connectivity. If final finishing touches cannot happen by September, the roads must still be clear. Dr. Saha also ordered crews to fix gaps at drainage junctions and swap iron covers for concrete ones to stop theft. He noted that waterlogging is down, as rainwater now clears within an hour in most parts of the city. Beyond roadwork, he is pushing a plan to make Agartala plastic-free, coordinating with the Science and Technology Department and the Tripura State Pollution Control Board.
The Chief Minister took a jab at political rivals during his site visit. "They only raised slogans, whereas our government believes in delivering through action. In a short period, we have ensured visible development across various sectors of the state," he said. He also confirmed he reached out to Union Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari to fix issues on the National Highway, sending photos and videos as evidence. Accompanying him were Agartala Mayor Dipak Majumder, Corporator Ratna Dutta, Chief Secretary J.K. Sinha, Secretary Kiran Gitte, and Municipal Commissioner Saju Wahid.
