Arunachal Border Residents Demand Better Roads and Connectivity

Itanagar: Residents of Taksing and Limeking in the Upper Subansiri district of Arunachal Pradesh are demanding urgent infrastructure improvements. These border communities sit over 200 km from the district headquarters in Daporijo. They currently suffer from severe connectivity issues that hinder daily life and military logistics.

Locals say the Daporijo to Taksing road, specifically near Nacho, is too narrow for two vehicles to pass. This bottleneck slows down vital Army operations. Residents claim their repeated pleas for government intervention have gone ignored. "Poor mobile connectivity often leaves people waiting for hours, and sometimes days, to send basic messages through applications such as WhatsApp," said Taksing resident Tania Chader.

Telecommunications remain unreliable throughout the region. Mobile towers rarely function, preventing access to essential online services. Young people must travel all the way to Daporijo just to submit job applications. Families are also forced to send children to distant cities like Itanagar for schooling, as local educational facilities remain insufficient.

Tania Chader also criticized the Frontier Highway project. Planners initially promised the route would pass within 20 km of the Line of Actual Control. The current design keeps the road 130 km away from Taksing. Local leaders like Tai Mra of Galemo village are calling for a proper two-lane highway to replace the failing infrastructure. For now, civilians and Army personnel alike rely on military doctors during emergencies because of the lack of regional health services.
