Itanagar: Members of the Save Taksing-Save Arunachal Movement Committee staged a protest at IG Park in Itanagar this Saturday. The group demanded that the Indian government take immediate action against the People’s Liberation Army regarding reported military activity in the Taksing sector. Protesters claim Chinese forces now occupy five specific areas near the border.
The group wants the government to demarcate the international boundary, improve border infrastructure for security patrols, and establish a dedicated Arunachal Regiment. One protester stated, "The Chinese PLA has captured five areas, and we have organised this programme to express our concern and patriotism." The crowd chanted slogans like "Go back Chinese PLA" and "Return our land" throughout the event.
The movement follows a June 26, 2026, letter from the NAH Welfare Society to the Deputy Commissioner of the Upper Subansiri district. NWS president Keru Chader detailed allegations of Chinese military camps, bridges, and roads built within Indian territory. The organization identified the disputed locations as Oying in the Asaphila area, Paniar in the Chujarta area, Marpan, Potrang Lake, and Tindingtang.
STSAM leaders have submitted a formal memorandum to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. They urged all political parties to ignore local divisions and join the push for stronger border security. The committee argues that better roads are vital for military patrols to maintain control over the remote region. Protesters maintained that unified political action is needed to force a withdrawal.
