Arunachal Congress Protests Vice President Meeting Denial

Itanagar: The Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee held a protest on September 9 after officials blocked their request to meet Vice President C P Radhakrishnan. APCC president Bosiram Siram said the party reached out through the chief secretary on September 4 but got zero response. He labeled the snub deeply unfortunate. He questioned why the main opposition party could not air grievances to the Vice President.

Congress leaders wanted to hand over a memo focused on border security and infrastructure. They called for a dedicated Arunachal Regiment to boost local recruitment. The party believes this move strengthens national security while creating jobs. They also demanded a parliamentary delegation visit Taksing and other frontier zones. They want officials to witness the lack of roads, health services, and communications firsthand.

The memorandum pushed for better logistics for troops stationed along the Himalayan border. They specifically asked for more manpower, fuel, food, and medical gear. On the legal front, the party demanded an amendment to Article 371H. They want stronger safeguards for indigenous land, forests, and cultural identity.

The group slammed the proposed 11,200 MW Siang Upper Multipurpose Project. They cited risks like seismic activity and mass displacement. Instead, they pushed for smaller, run-of-the-river hydropower schemes. They demanded a halt to the mega-project until an independent assessment covers the full environmental impact and downstream dangers.
