Agartala: Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha confirmed six FIRs against former CM and CPI(M) leader Manik Sarkar. The cases stem from an alleged Jangi Andolan remark. That translates to an aggressively vociferous movement. The drama started during the third day of the ongoing Assembly session after MLA Sushanta Deb and Minister Sushanta Chowdhury voiced concerns.
Prabir Roy filed the primary FIR at the West Agartala Police Station. Records show Sarkar spoke at a political event between 12 pm and 1 pm on August 10. Local papers later printed his words. The complaint claims Sarkar warned that ignoring demands would force the protest into a Jangi Andolan.
Saha noted that the state sees this rhetoric as dangerous. Officials fear the statement could incite violence against the government. They worry anti-social elements might use the words to disrupt public order and threaten residents. Sarkar holds significant influence, so the state is treating these allegations as a potential security risk.
Police registered five additional Zero FIRs across Kalyanpur, Khowai, Bishalgarh, Kadamtala, and Teliamura. All five files now sit with the original case at the West Agartala station. "The five Zero FIRs were subsequently tagged together with the original case at West Agartala police station. Further investigation on the issue is underway," Saha said. The government promises to follow the law regardless of the suspect's political rank. Sarkar has not responded to the claims yet.
