Agartala: Prantik Club in Agartala kicked off its Durga Puja preparations Sunday with the traditional Khuti Puja. This year, the organizers are ditching standard glitz for a serious message. They want a tobacco-free society. The pandal will use artistic displays to show how tobacco ruins lives and families.

The build itself prioritizes the environment. Skilled artisans from West Bengal are using coconut husk for the entire structure. It looks rustic. Lighting specialists from West Bengal are also on the job, while local artists round out the team to boost community spirit.

Organizers want to use the festival to hit home on public health. "Durga Puja is not just about devotion and festivity; it is also an opportunity to reach out to society with meaningful messages," an organizer said. Residents back the move, citing the easy access to tobacco and the risks it poses to local youth. The club expects the mix of natural decor and the anti-tobacco theme to draw big crowds throughout the season.
