Agartala: Labour Minister Tinku Roy wants a state-wide social movement to stop tobacco addiction in Tripura. He told attendees at an Agartala workshop that official programs will fail without active citizen involvement. It is a fight for families and the broader community.
"Tobacco consumption destroys not only the person but also the wellbeing of their family and community. To build a tobacco-free society, public participation is as important as official initiatives," Roy said. He urged every citizen to shield the youth from these habits.
The event fell under the National Tobacco Control Programme. Attendees included West Tripura Zilla Parishad Acting Sabhadhipati Biswajit Shil, Tripura Women's Commission Chairperson Jharna Debbarma, and Voluntary Health Association of Tripura president Dr. Srilekha Roy. State Programme Officer Dr. Shukla Debbarma and the association's executive director also attended.
Talks focused on the link between tobacco and cancer. Officials need to enforce strict control laws. They plan to expand awareness campaigns and keep campuses and workplaces smoke-free. The National Health Mission, Tripura, expects this workshop to sharpen anti-tobacco efforts across the state.
