Agartala: Agartala Municipal Corporation Ward 39 is shaking up the 2026 Sharadiya festival with a new series of awards for puja committees. Mayor Dipak Majumder and Corporator Alok Roy laid out the plans to make this year's celebration more disciplined and green. Competition categories include Best Idol, Best Puja Pandal, Best Puja on a Low Budget, Best Environmental Awareness Campaign, Best Discipline, and Best Souvenir.
Organizers will also hand out special prizes for creative projects. They want to connect young people with the country's literary roots by highlighting the work of Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay. Mayor Majumder wants a balance between tradition and duty. He stated, "Durga Puja is not merely a religious festival but also an important part of Tripura's social and cultural heritage."
Corporator Roy is pushing for transparency and eco-friendly behavior among all organizers. He noted that committees that manage to create beauty on a tight budget will earn special consideration. The main awards event kicks off on Sunday, November 1, at 6 pm. It takes place at Arundhatinagar Class XII School. Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha will attend the ceremony to hand out accolades and lead discussions on culture, social harmony, and environmental protection.
