Agartala: The Tripura Human Rights Commission has launched a probe into Swapnajit Sarkar, an Assistant Municipal Commissioner with the Agartala Municipal Corporation. The order responds to claims of professional misconduct in the East Zone. Trouble started at the Geetanjali Apartment, located near the Rabindrapalli Government Quarters on HGB Road.

Residents Chayan Pal and Supta Pal filed the formal complaint. They accuse Sarkar of humiliation, harassment, and an attempted physical assault. The couple claims he used abusive language while on duty and provided documents to back up their story. The commission identified the case as Order Sheet No. 92 of 2026.

Justice Arindam Lodh and member U. Choudhury signed the directive on August 21, 2026. The commission sent a copy of the complaint to the head of the Agartala Municipal Corporation. They want a report on whether human rights were violated. "The Commission specifically instructed the AMC Commissioner to investigate whether the applicants’ human rights were violated and to submit a detailed report."

Officials expect the findings soon. The commission scheduled a follow-up hearing for 20 days after the initial order.
