Security Beefed Up Across Shillong After Bike Rally Violence

Shillong: Shillong remains subdued. The city has stayed quiet for two days after violence broke out during a KSU bike rally this past Wednesday. Traffic on major roads has thinned out, and pedestrian numbers in commercial districts have plummeted. Tourists have fled. Meanwhile, Assam-registered vehicles are notably absent from the streets.

State authorities moved quickly to lock down the area. They boosted security deployments across the city to prevent further flare-ups. Units from the state police are now stationed in sensitive sectors, working alongside the Central Armed Police Forces and the Rapid Action Force. Officers are conducting frequent checks on two-wheelers throughout the city to keep a lid on the tension.

At Khyndai Lad, a heavy mix of state police, Special Operations Team members, CRPF, and RAF personnel maintains a watchful eye. The government continues to promise the public that they have the situation under control. Local officials are waiting for the city to stabilize, stating, "Officials remain hopeful that normal activity will resume gradually as the situation stabilises."
