Elephants wreck homes in South West Garo Hills

Shillong: A wild elephant tore through two homes in Dakupara, South West Garo Hills, during the early hours of August 21, 2026. The rampage began around 3 am. The animal leveled a kitchen owned by Remol Hajong, the wife of Nepalgre Hajong. Two adults lived inside the structure at the time. Nobody died.

A second property belonging to Sonutibala Hajong, the wife of Gopal Hajong, also suffered severe damage. The structure served as both a home and a storehouse.
