Agartala: Tripura Police expanded its probe into the death of former Director General of Police Anurag Dhankar. Officials found Dhankar dead inside the washroom of his official chamber at the State Police Headquarters in Agartala on July 20. The investigation is now handled by a ten-member Special Investigation Team.
West Tripura Superintendent of Police Namit Pathak leads the unit. The case falls under West Agartala Police Station U.D. Case No. 2026WAG045, registered under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita. Pathak oversees a team of nine other officers: Addl. SP Dhruba Nath, Addl. SP Souvik De, Dy S.P Benjam Dewan, Inspectors Rana Chatterjee, Bhaskar Saha, and Shiuli Das, alongside Sub-Inspectors Subhojit Deb, Subendu Das, and Chinmoy Bhowmik.
The department demands results. Members must maintain professional confidentiality while following strict legal procedures. According to the official order, the team must ensure a "comprehensive, coordinated and speedy investigation."
Daily operations are rigorous. The team meets at 11.30 am to assign tasks and again at 7.30 pm to review findings and identify gaps. Investigators must submit daily reports on evidence and technical analysis. Every Saturday, the team delivers a consolidated report to the Inspector General of Police for Law and Order. Failure to follow these strict instructions carries professional consequences.
