Agartala: Candidates filed 324 nomination papers for the 2026 Tripura Urban Local Bodies General Election by November 2. The Tripura State Election Commission reports 241 individuals have entered the race so far. The process kicked off October 31 and runs through November 7. Large parties are sitting this out.

The BJP, IPFT, and Tipra Motha Party have submitted zero papers. The CPI(M) currently dominates the field. They account for 218 candidates and 300 total submissions. Congress follows with 12 candidates and 13 papers. Other hopefuls added 11 more to the pile. The commission tracks these filings across 21 local bodies covering 345 total seats.

Activity remains uneven across the districts. West Tripura’s Agartala Municipal Corporation saw 32 candidates file 44 papers for its 51 seats. North Tripura’s Dharmanagar Municipal Council saw 28 candidates file 65 papers for 25 seats. Only 32 candidates filed on the first day. By the second day, the commission reported 254 fresh nominations from 207 candidates. State Election Commission officials noted, "A total of 324 nomination papers have been filed by 241 candidates for the upcoming Urban Local Bodies (ULB) General Election 2026 in Tripura as of November 2."
