Tripura Village Committee Election Nominations Hit 763

Agartala: Candidates filed 763 nomination papers across 25 blocks for the upcoming Village Committee elections within the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council. State Election Commission Secretary Anurag Sen confirmed the figures on Friday, September 4. The poll covers 52 blocks total. Nominations remain open until September 8.

Tipra Motha Party leads with 422 filings, followed by 340 from the CPI(M) and one entry from an independent or minor party. Block Development Officers serve as Returning Officers. Officials accepted paperwork on September 4 despite the Janmashtami holiday.

The commission scheduled voting for September 28. Vote counting starts October 5. Sen noted the current lack of friction: "So far, the Commission has not received any complaints from political parties."

Voters will decide on 4,597 seats across 2,634 constituencies. Of those, 4,025 slots are reserved for Scheduled Tribes, 178 for Scheduled Castes, and 394 are unreserved. Gender quotas set aside 1,693 ST seats, 67 SC seats, and 245 unreserved seats for women.

Election officials will scrutinize papers on September 9. Candidates may withdraw on September 11. Police and civil administrators have orders to keep the peace. The commission monitors all blocks to ensure safety until polls close.
