Agartala: Tripura Police expanded their special investigation team to 10 members to probe the mysterious death of former DGP Anurag Dhankar. Officials found the 1994-batch IPS officer dead in his office washroom at the state police headquarters in Agartala on July 20. West Tripura Superintendent of Police Namit Pathak leads the panel.
The SIT now includes Additional SPs Dhruba Nath and Souvik De, Deputy SP Benjam Dewan, and Inspectors Rana Chatterjee, Bhaskar Saha, and Shiuli Das. Sub-Inspectors Subhojit Deb, Subendu Das, and Chinmoy Bhowmik round out the group. Subhojit Deb remains the primary investigating officer for the case, registered as U.D. Case No. 2026WAG045 under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita.
The team must meet twice daily in the SP’s chamber. Morning sessions start at 11:30 am to assign tasks. The team reconvenes at 7:30 pm to identify gaps and review evidence. Weekly reports go to the Inspector General of Police for Law and Order. The official order mandates that the probe be conducted "professionally, impartially and with the utmost confidentiality."
Opposition parties continue to apply heat. The CPI(M) recently urged Governor Indrasena Reddy Nallu to launch a judicial inquiry led by a High Court judge. Congress leaders joined the call for an independent review. The state government has rejected those demands, sticking firmly to the SIT investigation.
