Agartala: Investigators expect answers soon regarding the death of Tripura DGP Anurag Dhankar. Namit Pathak, the West Tripura district SP leading the probe, promised quick results on Friday, August 14. He confirmed the ten-member team is scrubbing technical inputs and scientific evidence. Dhankar died on July 20. He was found hanging in a washroom connected to his Agartala headquarters office.
Dhankar had a high-profile career. He led the CBI investigation into the Rs 13,000-crore Punjab National Bank fraud involving Nirav Modi. He also managed the reinvestigation into the 1984 anti-Sikh riots. The state government formed a three-member probe team four days after he died. Pathak said, "The facts surrounding the case will be known very shortly." He promised strong action against anyone found involved.
Security is now tight. Tripura prepares for Independence Day under a high-alert status. Police, CRPF, BSF, CISF, Assam Rifles, and Tripura State Rifles are running joint patrols. They have locked down the international border. Officials deployed dog squads at the airport and railway stations. They also set up mobile check posts across Agartala and surrounding areas.
Pathak also pushed a new anti-drug campaign. Police increased naka checks across the district. They are also beefing up the beat policing system. Authorities will post officer contact numbers in urban areas for emergency access. Security agencies remain on high alert throughout the holiday period.
