Agartala: A group of attackers swarmed the BJP office in Khumulwng on Saturday. The incident left 12 two-wheelers and two cars vandalized. Party workers fled the scene to escape the violence. No injuries were reported, but the situation in the Takarjala area remains tense. Police and Tripura State Rifles personnel now occupy the area to maintain order.

Nirmal Debbarma, president of the 12-Takarjala BJP mandal, said the office and vehicles sustained heavy damage. BJP leaders pointed the finger at supporters of the Tipra Motha party. BJP state General Secretary Bipin Debbarma said, "The assailants could not be identified yet. Instructions had been passed to lodge an FIR against the people who were responsible for the incident."

The attack signals a breakdown between the coalition partners. Relations soured following the TTAADC election earlier this year. Both sides are now maneuvering for the Village Committee elections scheduled for next month. Attempts at a pre-poll alliance failed despite intervention from the BJP central leadership.

Tipra Motha founder Pradyot Kishore Debbarman stated via livestream that any coalition hinges on the implementation of the 2024 Tiprasa Accord. He wants land allotment rights for the TTAADC and increased financial autonomy. While the pact remains stalled, Chief Minister Manik Saha says an alliance is not off the table.
