Agartala: Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha confirmed that a joint electoral deal between the BJP and Tipra Motha for the upcoming Village Committee polls remains on the table. Discussions are ongoing. While in New Delhi for strategy meetings with national president Nitin Nabin and general secretary BL Santosh, Saha kept his cards close to his chest. When asked about a potential alliance, he said, "It may happen."
Tipra Motha leadership, including Pradyot Kishore Debbarma, MLA Ranjit Debbarma, and minister Brishaketu Debbarma, converged on the national capital this weekend. The group scheduled meetings with Union Home Ministry officials for Sunday to press for the implementation of the 2024 tripartite agreement. This pact remains the primary driver behind Tipra Motha joining the current government coalition. Internal sources suggest the party may also push for a cabinet reshuffle as the state looks toward the 2028 Assembly elections.
Saha pivoted back to governance on August 8. He chaired a high-level review of power and infrastructure works alongside Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath and Finance Minister Pranajit Singha Roy. The session addressed progress on the Agartala Smart City project and necessary repairs to state roads and national highways maintained by the Public Works Department. Officials from the Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited provided updates on the power sector.
The Chief Minister also balanced his political schedule with public engagements. He inaugurated the 54th Tripura State Badminton Championship 2026 at the NSRCC Badminton Indoor Hall, noting the state's potential to foster young athletic talent through improved facilities. On August 9, he attended a blood donation drive in Ward No. 20, praising participants for their commitment to public service and social responsibility.
