Agartala: Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha confirmed Sunday that the BJP and the Tipra Motha Party (TMP) are still hashing out a potential alliance for the upcoming village committee elections. Voters will head to the polls in the first half of September to fill 587 seats across the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC).

Saha remains optimistic about the partnership. "Our doors are still open for an alliance for the village committee elections, and talks between the two parties are still on," Saha said. He plans to wait for a formal agreement before making any official announcements.

The TMP holds a dominant position in the TTAADC, having swept 24 of 28 seats in previous contests. Despite this, the party maintains a power-sharing arrangement with the BJP at the state level. TMP supremo Pradyot Kishore Debbarma has summoned roughly 300 party leaders to an organizational meeting this Monday. They will settle on a campaign strategy and decide whether to move forward with the BJP.

TMP MLA Ranjit Debbarma noted that the party leader received a call from Delhi regarding the coalition. Pradyot Kishore Debbarma may travel to the capital following the meeting. Previous high-level talks between TMP leadership and BJP national president Nitin Nabin in Delhi failed to produce a deal. Both parties are now back at the table trying to bridge the gap before the September deadline.
