Agartala: Union Home Minister Amit Shah is set to meet Tipra Motha Party founder Pradyot Kishore Debbarma and Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha in New Delhi. The talks focus on a possible electoral alliance for upcoming village committee elections. BJP Northeast coordinator Sambit Patra will likely join the discussions this weekend.

TMP MLA Ranjit Debbarma confirmed that Pradyot Kishore Debbarma and general secretary Brishaketu Debbarma are traveling to the capital. The party held a closed-door meeting in Shillong on Wednesday to finalize their stance. They reached an in-principle consensus to explore a deal with the BJP. The TMP leadership intends to raise various political matters during the sit-down.

Success hinges on specific demands. The party insists on the implementation of commitments made in the tripartite agreement involving the Centre, the Tripura government, and the Tipra Motha Party. A TMP leader said, "The party leadership is understood to have reached an in-principle consensus on exploring an electoral understanding with the BJP for the village committee polls."

Voters head to the booths in September. This marks the first time 587 village committees under the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council will hold elections in nine years. The process finally moves forward after the parties cleared a long legal fight in the Supreme Court.
