Agartala: Tripura urban areas pump out 352.78 metric tonnes of solid waste every single day. Only 57.18 percent of this trash undergoes scientific processing. Chief Minister Manik Saha confirmed these figures in the state Assembly on Thursday. The data came in response to a question from BJP MLA Jahar Chakraborty and Congress MLA Sudip Roy Barman. Bishramganj Nagar Panchayat is excluded from these figures.
The state leans on women self-help groups to manage local collection. These crews handle door-to-door pickup of segregated wet and dry waste. Collected refuse moves to Secondary Segregation Sheds serving two or three wards each. Workers then ship wet waste to Integrated Material Recovery Facility-cum-Composting Facilities. "The waste is scientifically processed, recycled and recovered at these facilities," the government stated.
Agartala Municipal Corporation landed a 39 crore rupee budget this financial year to overhaul waste management. They plan to buy four steer loaders, four trippers, and four cesspool vehicles. The list includes two vehicle-mounted suction machines, 400 push carts, and 50 electric autos. Tenders for this hardware are currently in progress. The government did not report how much of that 39 crore budget has been spent yet.
